The Opportunity
KPMG's Strategy & Performance Transformation practice is looking for exceptional candidates for an Associate Director role, with a sector focus on the Consumer, Retail & Leisure industry and with particular experience in Deal Strategy, one of our core propositions. Additional experience across our other propositions - Growth Strategy, Cost and Operational strategy (including Economic Profitability Analysis) and Enterprise-wide Transformation - will also be valuable.
The Strategy & Performance Transformation team is part of KPMG's rapidly expanding Strategy Group, which delivers value for clients by challenging conventional thinking, bringing deep industry and functional insights and executing with investor-grade rigour. We are a diverse team of over 150 practitioners, working collaboratively with and orchestrating KPMG's broad set of capabilities within our Advisory business.
Responsibilities
To be an effective Associate Director within our Strategy & Performance Transformation applicants will be expected to:
Take a leadership role with the team and to hold a high quality, credible reputation with clients and in the broader market - experience of a range of M&A related projects will be critical, eg Commercial DD, M&A Strategy, Value creation etcDesign and run mid-sized to large projects and / or very large, complex workstreamsAct as primary client liaison on KPMG engagements and act as an 'ambassador' for the firmProduce client-ready deliverables that exceed expectations and require minimal reviewDevelop solutions to complex problems and challenge the thinking of more senior colleagues and clientsHelp design - and guide junior staff to - execute detailed financial / business models performing complex scenario and sensitivity analysisIdentify go-to-market and marketing opportunities and assume day-to-day responsibility for taking these to clientsMaintain active contact with mid-level clients outside of engagement situationsShow initiative to identify and drive thought leadership and knowledge management activitiesTake day-to-day responsibility that the firm's risk management frameworks are adhered toActively seek out leadership opportunities, take responsibility for a selection of internal processes and generally act as a leader in the S&PT and an inspiration to more junior team membersProvide timely feedback and coaching to other team membersLead on practice development activities to ensure successful delivery of initiatives

Your Experience
Successful applicants will demonstrate the following:
Work Experience:
Extensive experience working in a leading strategy consulting business, Big 4 firm or strategy / Corporate Development team in industryStrong foundational understanding of the value drivers across the broadly defined Consumer sector: Consumer Goods, Retail & Travel & Leisure businesses - and views on the future outlook for this sectorExperience of leading mid-sized and large projects: designing work plans, team structures and then managing these to (i) excellent client output and (ii) strong project economicsThis should include an extensive coverage of recent M&A transactions, eg CDD, VDD, M&A Strategy or Value Creation projects in the Consumer sectorEvidence of taking responsibility for designing proposals, scopes and pricing for mid-sized and large consulting assignmentsPro-active role in business development activity, designing client ready pitches, generating differentiated insights and holding personal client relationshipsAbility to work effectively and collaboratively with team members and broader (internal and external) stakeholdersStrong track record of building followership among more junior staff membersNon-client facing roles in driving practice forward in areas such as team management, training, technical tool development, liaison with service suppliers etcTechnical skills:
Strong academic track recordEvidence of strong problem-solving & analytical capabilitiesStructured thinking skills combined with creativityAbility to evaluate complex challenges and deliver insightful recommendations that can be practically executedAbility review and assess large volumes of technical data and distil the key strategic insights Strong numerical capabilities combined with sound commercial acumen Ability to build complex financial models that support our recommendations to clientsExcellent written and oral communication skillsOther language skills would be a strong bonus
