OverviewWorking with the Quality and Standards team and the Health and Safety Lead, the post holder will provide competent specialist advice for the Trust to ensure all health and safety issues are appropriately reported and coordinated. As a Health and Safety Manager you must have experience of working within health and safety in a healthcare setting or large complex organisation and hold the required qualifications, alongside proven leadership and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills at a corporate level. The postholder will deliver health and safety risk management training and communicate and influence in potentially complex and stressful situations involving staff, patients and/or other service users. This position offers a great opportunity to apply and further develop your professional health and safety skills and experience in a supportive and dynamic team. The role will be based at The Christie main site in Withington with the occasional need to travel between the Christie’s satellite sites in Macclesfield, Oldham and Salford. ResponsibilitiesEmbed a positive health and safety culture; engage effectively with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, senior managers and key stakeholders to ensure effective health and safety management systems and processes are in place and are utilised to identify, manage and mitigate all levels of risk.Provide leadership and expert knowledge in all matters relating to health and safety risk and risk management; contribute to operational services delivery which meets the Trust’s objectives and targets and ensure compliance with statutory health and safety requirements, continuous improvement and audits.Deliver health and safety risk management training, write reports, complete complex risk assessments, and lead incident investigations (including RIDDOR reportable), ensuring root causes are identified, lessons learnt are applied, and timely measures are implemented.Qualifications & SkillsProven experience in a comparable role within the NHS or another large complex organisation.Familiarity with health and safety legislation; ability to contribute to policies and procedures and to deliver health and safety training and risk assessments.Experience writing reports and leading on incident investigations; ability to ensure timely corrective actions and learnings.Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office, risk management systems); ability to organise, prioritise, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail.About The ChristieThe Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year.
