Your new team

This position sits in our Global Travel Retail business. Global Travel Retail is one of the Group’s largest markets, bringing Pernod Ricard brands to life in the exciting and innovative Travel Retail channel which includes duty-free, cruise ships & border shops around the globe. The retail excellence team mission is to create world-class retail environments where people and spaces fit together like a hand in a glove, seamlessly connecting travellers, retail staff, and their surroundings. Our role is to ensure our brands’ activations relate to shoppers in the most disruptive, stimulating and desirable way to maximize footfall and conversion both in and out of stores, driving brand value and commercial growth.

The collaboration of an interdisciplinary team with the right mix of skills (retail design, visual merchandising, training, sourcing, procurement, project and budget management) is vital to the successful execution of our brand image and value objectives.

We work collaboratively with all internal departments as well as retailers, agencies and suppliers to achieve our goals. We aim to be creative, efficient and cost effective, with a strong sense of ethics.

The REX Retail Design team consists of 2 design sub teams, consisting of 6-8 Retail Designers & project managers. We also have a Retail Training Arm, consisting similarly of 2 sub teams: one with Global Central Marketing responsibility and the other, local implementation responsibility.

REX Retail Design – Global Central Marketing - based in London, Chiswick

  • Developing VM Global Design Guidelines – Activation & PMU
  • Designing large scale spaces – bespoke Boutique Stores & Concession stands
  • Designing event spaces (ie: TFWA)
  • Design & Stakeholder Project Management – working with internal & external stakeholders developing above projects, under timebound deadlines

Your unique contribution

The Senior Retail Designer will work across all global brands to design and develop “best in class” promotional & permanent merchandising guidelines, exceptional large scale retail spaces and industry event spaces. Retail Design managers will also develop space planning and category management projects to advise retailers.

Permanent Merchandising is defined by a branded fixture assigned in a permanent location in store, with a tentative lifespan of at least 3 years.

Year on year, about 300 permanent merchandising units are designed, built and installed across GTR.

These projects are mostly fittings in new concessions, full store renovations led by retailer and few renovations of existing spaces.

Because of the brand, traveller and market combination, not all POS are equal. We therefore prioritize investments in full look and have a cost-effective visibility solution for secondary locations.

The Senior Retail Design Manager role is to ensure a coherent execution of our brands images across GTR.

  • Design permanent merchandising guidelines for all brands and all key markets
    • Merchandising fixtures design and point of sale material (POSM)
    • Finishing materials references
    • Lighting specifications
    • Fabrication technical details
    • Cost range estimate for manufacturing (in collaboration with sourcing)
    • Product display planogram
    • Brand messaging integration
    • Visuals and graphics assets
  • Design specific large projects for which standard guidelines do not provide a solution
  • Provide consulting to retailers on category management and space planning

Activations are defined by a branded space and visibility inside or outside the store, allocated by the retailer for a temporary period.

GTR runs approximately 30 major activation campaigns per year. Each activation is implemented in a several point of sales.

The Retail Designer will primarily focus on the major activations design and implementation, and act as a relay of GTR London based Retail Excellence team, in proximity to the business units, to ensure out of stores, Large and Medium project are perfectly executed, in a coherent way according to GTR toolkits and guidelines.

Retail Design Manager develops and provides comprehensive toolkits that include:

  • Merchandising fixtures design and point of sale material (POSM)
  • Finishing materials references
  • Lighting specifications
  • Fabrication technical details
  • Cost range estimate for manufacturing (in collaboration with sourcing)
  • Product display planogram
  • Brand messaging integration
  • Visuals and graphics assets

These toolkits are shared with retailers, local agencies and suppliers to plan and execute these activations with a coherent execution and messaging.

Your blend of talent

This position could be right for you if you are/have:

  • Degree in creative fields / interior design or related applied art (BSc or BA)
  • Comfortable to express ideas quickly with freehand sketches
  • Competent in SketchUp (SolidWorks advantageous)
  • Master Adobe creative suite and office
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluent English spoken and written
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience preferably gained with a mix of creative positions, either in Agency or Brand
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in GTR
  • Multiple markets / international exposure (is advantageous)
  • Proven experience at designing and developing retail furniture and displays
  • Proven project management experience in retail environment
  • Proven experience in management of campaign and production budgets
