Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA)
 Location: Barnsley
 Salary: £85 – £110 per day (depending on experience)
 Start Date: Immediate
 Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time
Are you a patient, empathetic, and dedicated individual passionate about supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
GSL Education are seeking a committed SEMH TA to join an inclusive and supportive school in Barnsley. This is a rewarding opportunity to help pupils overcome challenges, build confidence, and engage positively with their learning.
In this SEMH TA role, you will deliver targeted support to pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, assisting both one-to-one and in small groups to encourage learning, emotional wellbeing, and positive behaviour.
As an SEMH TA, you will:
- Provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
 - Help create a structured, safe, and nurturing learning environment that promotes emotional wellbeing and engagement.
 - Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement personalised learning and behaviour plans.
 - Encourage pupils to develop resilience, confidence, and positive social skills.
 - Support pupils in managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.
 - Assist in monitoring progress and providing feedback to teachers to inform future support.
 
Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural challenges, or additional learning needs.
 - A calm, compassionate, and proactive approach to supporting pupils.
 - Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
 - Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and under teacher guidance.
 - An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
 - A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any gaps.
