SEN Teaching Assistant – Learning Resource Base (Full-Time, Newport NP19)
Location: Newport, NP19
️ Contract: Full-time, until end of academic year
Start Date: After October half term
About the School
This inclusive and supportive primary school in Newport has a dedicated Learning Resource Base (LRB) that caters to pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and behavioural needs. The school promotes a nurturing environment where pupils are encouraged to grow both academically and emotionally, supported by experienced and compassionate staff.
The Role
We are seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within the LRB on a full-time basis. You will work alongside the class teacher and SENCO to deliver targeted support, helping pupils manage their emotions, behaviour, and learning.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ASD and behavioural needs

Support the class teacher in delivering tailored, structured activities
-
Implement strategies to support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
-
Encourage independence, communication, and social interaction
-
Help create a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
-
Support with personal care where required

Work in line with EHCPs and collaborate with wider school staff

We are looking for someone who is:

Patient, empathetic, and consistent in approach
-
Passionate about supporting pupils with additional learning needs
-
Experienced in working with ASD and behavioural challenges (school or care-based experience considered)

Familiar with positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques
-
Flexible and able to adapt to individual needs
-
Committed to promoting inclusion and safeguarding
A relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification is desirable but not essential.
Requirements

Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC)
-
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
-
References covering the last 24 months
-
Prior experience supporting children or young people with additional needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
