Step into a vibrant, visitor-focused Retail Assistant role within one of the UK’s most iconic cultural institutions, The British Museum.
The Role We’re seeking enthusiastic and experienced Retail Assistants to join the team on a full-time, temporary basis for a minimum of 6 months. You’ll play a key part in shaping the visitor experience, driving sales and ensuring the shop floor remains welcoming and well-presented at all times.
Key responsibilities include: Delivering outstanding customer service across various Museum retail outlets Processing transactions using EPOS till systems (cash and card) Maintaining a clean and organised shop floor Supporting stock replenishment and general shop duties Communicating effectively with customers and colleagues Maintaining a calm, positive attitude in a high-footfall environment
Shift pattern: Rolling rota: 4 days on, 2 off Full-time hours vary, including weekends and late Fridays One full weekend off per month Start date: 25th June 2025
About You You’re a natural communicator, confident in high-volume retail settings, and genuinely enjoy connecting with customers from all walks of life. Your drive, resilience and warm personality help create a standout shopping experience that keeps people coming back. Minimum 2 years’ experience in retail sales and customer service Able to work efficiently under pressure with a proactive mindset Numerically confident and comfortable using till systems Must have a valid DBS certificate Fully available across July and August
